〈セロ弾きのゴーシュ〉の音楽論〈セロ弾きのゴーシュ〉の音楽論
宮沢賢治の『セロ弾きのゴーシュ』は有名な童話だ。知らない方の為にあらすじを説明しておこう。

町の楽団で最も下手くそなセロ（チェロ）奏者・ゴーシュはいつも指揮者に怒られていた。演奏会まであと１０日と迫ったある日、夜遅くに三毛猫がゴーシュの家を訪ねてきた。「自分は音楽を聴く耳を持っているんだぞ」と鼻にかけたような態度の生意気な猫であったため、ゴーシュは『印度の虎狩り』を弾いて猫を追い出してしまう。
次にゴーシュの家を訪れたのはカッコウであった。ドレミファを教えて欲しいのだと言う。しかしカッコウの世界でドレミファとは「カッコウ（鳴き声）」のことであることを知り、ばかばかしいと思いつつも夢中になって朝まで一緒に練習してしまう。
３番目はタヌキの子供であった。ここでもゴーシュはタヌキの太鼓に合わせてチェロを夢中に練習した。
４番目はネズミの親子。子供が熱をだして元気がないのでチェロの音で癒してほしいというので、楽器の中にネズミを入れて演奏して見事ネズミの子供は元気になった。
そして演奏会の本番、動物たち相手に練習したことが功を奏したのだろう。演奏会は大成功に終わり、アンコールではゴーシュが『印度の虎狩り』を演奏し、観客の感動を誘った。

とまあ簡単に書くとこんなお話だ。
そしてこの本は『セロ弾きのゴーシュ』の物語を音楽的に分析し、宮沢賢治の思想、音楽の在り方を探るという内容である。その焦点はほとんど音楽や楽器の身体性に向けられているが、その他にも例えば、ゴーシュの弾く「カッコウ」とカッコウの鳴き声の違いを『音律』から説明したり、楽団の指揮者が要求することが全て外面的であることに触れた上で、『テクニック』と『メカニズム』の違い、そしてフルトヴェングラーとカラヤンの音楽的アプローチの違いに至るまで触れられている。

部分的に非常に難しい内容だが、扱っているテーマがよく知っている題材だけに興味深く読むことができた。
